Tornado - Severe Weather Repair

Tornado - Severe Weather RepairIn April of 2011, Cable Associates simultaneously worked with Cox Communications and Gloucester County Public Schools in order to restore the network between the community, school system and its transportation facility in the aftermath of a tornado in Gloucester, Virginia. The path of destruction was roughly 5 miles long destroying everything in its way including Page Middle School, which also encompasses the county’s transportation facility. The transportation facility operates almost 100 buses that are responsible for transporting over 6,000 students to and from school and home. Thankfully the tornado struck on a Saturday night and not during school hours. Sunday morning, Cable Associates’ crews began working around the clock for two weeks in order to restore all services. Entire sections of aerial infrastructure were down making roads impassable, Cable Associates as well as Cox Communications and Dominion Virginia Power worked countless hours repairing the aerial construction, restoring service to both residential homes and the school system simultaneously. The service to the county’s transportation center was restored by Wednesday, by completely re-directing the existing fiber route to travel around the demolished middle school. The repairs to the school, transportation facility as well as some surrounding residential homes consisted of underground and aerial work, with both coax and fiber being replaced and then spliced.
