US Department of Defense

US Department of DefenseCable Associates has worked with the Department of Defense for over 15 years completing countless network builds and repairs. We have done work on every military installation in the Hampton Roads area, on projects such as duct run construction as well as manhole system construction. The construction of major duct runs on the military bases ranges from single runs of 200 feet up to 2,000 feet with 2 inch duct and handhole installation, as well as up to six 4 inch ducts with 8’x10’x8’ manholes every 500 feet. Each member of our team has been previously certified to work within each base in order to complete our many projects, including copper and fiber placement and splicing as well as manhole demolition and construction, which requires a Confined Space Entry Certification and training. Cable Associates has also built and spliced miles of both fiber and copper cables to provide each military installation with new high speed voice and data connectivity. One of our most recent and significant projects for the Department of Defense was the complete data center relocation for an Army hospital in Ft. Eustis. This entailed disconnecting the network to the entire hospital, relocating the data center and resplicing over 400 fibers to redirect to the new data center location. The entire hospital went dark during the relocation and fibers were spliced and brought back up in a strategic order to facilitate timely reconnection of crucial sections of the hospital. It took over two months of engineering to determine the splicing schedule to reconnect in a prioritized manner based on hospital importance. The Department of Defense has been a long standing customer that we are proud to do work for, and we look forward to their continued business.
